Riyadh and Expo 2030: Equipment Rental for the Next Wave
Riyadh is where several of the Kingdom's next large construction programmes meet: Expo 2030, the airport and the 2034 World Cup stadiums.
A decision to hire equipment for Riyadh projects begins with timing. Infrastructure works come first, buildings follow and the finishing trades arrive last, each with a different machine profile. This guide uses the published Expo 2030 contract information to describe where the work is now and how rental equipment fits each stage. It is based on public reporting and does not claim that we supply any named project.
The Expo 2030 site
Expo 2030 Riyadh is planned across about 6 million square metres, with the event running from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031 and over 42 million visits expected. The main utilities and civil works contract went to Nesma & Partners in January 2026, covering roads and about 50 km of water, sewage, EV charging, electrical and communication networks. MEED reported an estimated value of SR1 billion.
In April 2026, Al-Yamama Company won two further contracts for road networks and utilities in the northern and southern clusters of the nature corridor. Construction across infrastructure, buildings and public spaces is set to advance in phases through 2026 and into early 2027.
Equipment by stage (our reading)
| Stage | Typical rental needs |
|---|---|
| Roads and utilities | Excavators, dump trucks, rollers, motor graders, plate compactors and water pumps. |
| Structures and buildings | Mobile cranes, telehandlers, forklifts, boom and scissor lifts. |
| Temporary works | Generators, light towers and compressors for site offices, camps and night shifts. |
Why timing matters in a city programme
Several large Riyadh programmes overlap in time, so demand for cranes, access equipment and earthmoving fleets can tighten when stages align. Contractors who book early and tell their rental partner the expected duration usually get better availability. Waiting for the last week before mobilisation leaves less room to choose the machine, the operator and the transport slot.
Urban site rules to plan for
- Delivery windows and traffic limits near busy roads
- Gate passes and induction for every machine and operator
- Noise, dust and working-hour restrictions near occupied areas
- The summer midday outdoor work ban from 15 June to 15 September
Delivering to Riyadh
Riyadh is roughly 400 km by road from our Dammam base, so transport is quoted per request. Send the start date and machine list early so we can plan the move. For heavy machines, confirm trailer type and any special requirements with your haulier before booking.
Choosing machines for urban civil works
Roads and utilities in a city environment mean trenching beside live services, working in narrow corridors and loading trucks in traffic. Mid-size excavators often give the best balance of reach and manoeuvrability, backed by dump trucks sized for the local gate and road limits. Plate compactors and rollers finish the trench and the surface, and water pumps keep excavations dry. If you are unsure about size, send the trench depth, width and ground type, and we recommend the machine class.
Buildings, lifts and fit-out
When structures rise, mobile cranes and telehandlers handle steel, precast and services, while boom and scissor lifts give access for cladding, ceilings and installations. Forklifts keep material flowing through the yard. As buildings close in, generators and light towers support work in unfinished spaces and night shifts. Each stage brings a different mix, which is why renting by stage keeps cost proportionate to the work.
If you are planning a Riyadh mobilisation, tell us the site, the expected duration and whether you want us to arrange transport, so the quote covers delivery and return from the first reply.
Check the delivery rules for each Riyadh site early: gate size, permitted hours and the person who receives machines. These details decide the delivery slot as much as distance does.
